The Great Gatsby (1949) ALAN LADD was the perfect actor for THE GREAT GATSBY, and his performance in this film captures F. Scott Fitzgerald's tragic hero with every nuance, every movement, every hidden torment.- a definitive characterization that should be seen. Redford had the right stuff, to a large extent, but the Redford-Farrow 1974 version is far too overblown with far too many missing, and important, elements in the plot. As for the Ladd version, it is true that Betty Field, a superb actress, was not right for Daisy -- there is far too much intelligence in her interpretation. Nor are Barry Sullivan, Ruth Hussey, and Macdonald Carey altogether satisfactory either. BUT the adaptation is closest to Fitzgerald, and the Ladd, of the later scenes in particular, is a tragic figure - truly reaching the heights of one of America's finest novels. And one that is ageless...redone again in 2000 as a TV Movie..

http://thegreatgatsbymovie.com/ http://www.facebook.com/thegreatgatsbymovie "The Great Gatsby" directed by Baz Luhrmann and starring Leonardo DiCaprio. In theaters May 10, 2013. "The Great Gatsby" follows Fitzgerald-like, would-be writer Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio) and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy (Carey Mulligan) and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan (Joel Edgerton). It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles.

Small travel gems- Honfleur, France

Honfleur (about 8100 inhabitants) is a seaport town in Calvados area, Basse-Normandie region, northern France. The town was built in 11th century. The Bridge of Normandy ( Pont de Normandie ), completed in 1995 connects two seaport towns, Honfleur and Le Havre. That is the cable-stayed road bridge over the river Seine and it is considered as a Europe's record for such type of a bridges (at the moment that was opened, it was longest cable stayed bridge) Honfleur (oko 8.100 stanovnika) je lučki grad u Calvados oblasti, Basse-Normandie regija, na severu Francuske. Prve kuce u ovom gradu, sagradjene su u 11. veku. Most u Normandiji (Pont de Normandie), završen u 1995, povezuje Honfleur i Le Havre preko reke Sene.

I worked with the y2 on Honfleur and they watched short videos such as: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2zKPtuP5AU and extracts form: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNDSQ8WK550 which were discussed. I then showed them some postcards that I had received and the ppt above which enabled us to look at the format of postcards. They then used the model to write their own post card effectively. These were used for a special display.
