Hello, all!

This semester I have been taking my first and second year German students to the foreign language computer lab (finally have one!) to work on their vocabulary.  Vocabulary learning and retention seem to be weak in both groups.  I make up flash cards on quizlet.com to accompany the unit (We are using Deutsch Aktuell).  The students go through the flash cards, learn the words, then play Scatter, matching up the meanings.  They have full-out callenges with this!  The top five scores (lowest scores) win 5 points extra credit on their next vocabulary quiz.  (Each student is allowed three tries). They also get their participation grade from doing the Speller activity, which is even nicer because the students can HEAR the word and spell it correctly.  Vocab quiz grades, even usage, has gone up more than 35% over previous quizes.  I have through unit 5 in both books on quizlet, if anyone wants to look them up.  Just look for me (vjhaynes56) on quizlet.com!

The only downside I've found with the site is that Russian is not included. :-(
